Dear June
Welcome to my first monthly recap! ⋆˙⟡
“It was the month of June
When her eyes opened,
Softly as the flower opens its petals.
Gently as the dawning of the day.”- Amrita Pritam
Postcard from this month
The past month has been so wonderful but at the same time very exhausting. On one hand, I visited lots of friends, was creative almost every day, had delicious food, enjoyed being on vacation and admired the blooming peonies.
On the other side, we had so many plans that I felt I could not even take five minutes to pause and the heat wave that took over europe was exhausting. With no AC and no fans it was horrible - like being cooked in your own home. It was also mentally challenging because I had anxiety attacks not being able to cool down. The walls here are made store heat because that‘s what we need in the colder months but that also means the house takes a long time to cool down once the heat wave is over. I guess it is really time to buy an AC.
It was a whirlwind of a month with wonderful memories and some difficult times. I am thankful for so many lovely memories but glad that the month is over now. This is what I did this month:
Books I read this month
Creative Junk Journaling by Natasha Ahmed
I had a reading slump in June which is why I only read one book. I got it via Libby and read it on my Kindle app though I bet the physical book is even more stunning! Natasha has wonderful ideas and the pictures are so aesthetic, I loved it!
Media…
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 (Disney+)
We finally got around to watch the fourth season of Only Murders and though we needed some time to get into it, we loved this season and are already excited for the next one. Season 5 is already out but I want to save it for fall as this tv show feels very fall-ish to me. This season had so many charaters - sometimes too many - but I loved seeing Eugene Levy and Meryl Streep. I highly recommend!
Hoppers (Disney+)
This movie was suggested by my friend just right after we finished watching Hercules with her boyfriend who had not seen this masterpiece. Hoppers was surprisingly fun, deep and well done! We kept on squealing because the animals were so cute!
Schitt’s Creek (Disney+)
I was so so happy when I saw that Disney Plus picked up this great show as I wanted to rewatch it for MONTHS but no streaming platform had it. This is such a comfort show, I am deeply in love with the charaters and it just makes me laugh. I love David’s storyline, how he develops and finds such a wonderful partner in Patrick. Their happy end was perfect. And how iconic is (a little bit) Alexis?
Loved…
Vacation with Friends: We spend a wonderful week near Lake Constance with my childhood friends and their family. We knew we would get along staying in the same Airbnb but it was even better than I imagined. We laughed, we played games, took walks, journaled, had meaningful and deep conversations and us girls even had half a day just for us to go shopping. I really hope we will go on vacation together again soon!
The cold breeze after the 11 day heat wave
This was healing. During the heat wave I slept so much because my body was exhausted just for keeping me alive and sleep made me escape the heat. When the temparature was normal again I just sat on my balcony breathing in the fresh air and thanking God it was over for now. Yes we had hot summers in the past but not for so many days in a row and high temperature even at night. I am an autumn girly through and through and I‘m already dreaming of autumn. For now I‘m enjoying the 25°C (78°F) and the breeze rustling through my hair.
Cooking with friends
This is a tradition that started in 2024. Our group of five meets every few weeks to cook together and either watch a movie (the latest was Hercules) or have game night. It is so much more fun to cool together, try out new recipes and even dare to make some more fancy meals. We even had a murder mystery dinner and went all out putting on costumes. I love our cooking group!
Carried…
Paper Republic A6 Chestnut
This is the journal I’ve been carrying around in my purse for a while now but the past month I could not go anywhere without it. I love seeing it in my purse and always having something to write in gives me a sense of calmness. It really is my most treasured journal and having my friends‘ charms on it makes me love it even more!
Soolla Studio Bag
I recently got this wonderful bag that holds all of my journal supplies and looks stunning! I was a bit sceptical when I saw this huge hype in the creative bubble of tiktok but they were all right. It is the perfect bag for journal enthusiasts
Journaling
Commonplace Book A6
I got an MD A6 (dotted) journal from my favorite stationary shop near us called “Punkt & Strich” (engl. dot and line). I use the same journal in A5 as my creative journal in my PR Portfolio (A5) and already knew I’d love the paper. They also have a transparent cover which is great to protect the sticker I put on. This commonplace book is used for random lists (dream vacation, books I loved, Disney movie list, my flower lexicon) and it fits perfectly in my PR A6.
Traveling Journal
This month I finished my traveling jounal that will be sent out to the first girl in our traveling journal group next month. I am so happy I found them on tiktok. They are from all over Germany and very sweet and we support each other on social media when showing our journals. This project is so lovely and I cannot wait to receive the first journal but most of all receiving back my journal after seven girls wrote into it!
These are a few of my favorite things
The Peony Bouquet I got from my husband (they are my favorite flowers!)
Paper Republic using pictures of my journal in their ads
Cheering on the German Soccer Team (though we were out in a blink of an eye)
Reaching over 100 Subscribers!
Facetime with friends and family
Throwing a Mini Baby Shower for my work bestie
Visiting my friend and her newborn!
My wish for the next month
Less Heat - The Heat Wave that rolled over most of Europe was horrible, exhausting and honestly made me unbearable. I hope next month will be less hot or at least that I can handle it better.
More Writing - I started outlining the novel I want to write though I haven’t started any actual writing. I really want to start and what a better way to start than finally receiving my Freewrite Traveler in July!
I really hope you had a good June! What were your highlights this month and what are you looking forward to in July?
Ever yours,
M
